Our team


Steve Wiggins

Chief Executive

Steve joined the team in January 2014, to continue the evolution of cohesive and sophisticated payment system improvements through collaboration, partnerships and ensuring a level playing field in a fast moving industry. Prior to joining Payments NZ, Steve served as General Manager Marketing, Sales and Customer Services with Gareth Morgan Investments. Steve has had direct senior management experience in a leading payments business responsible for the processing of $3b worth of value per year. From General Manager to creating and operating a number of his own businesses, Steve brings more than 25 years of leadership experience in disciplines covering business management, all aspects of marketing and sales, technology development and transfer.  He has developed a unique blend of skills through a career spanning a range of sectors including financial, energy and consulting services. Steve has a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration (BCA) from Victoria University.


Jane-Renee Retimana

Head of Strategy and Corporate Affairs

Jane joined Payments NZ in 2012 and is on the company’s executive leadership team. She is responsible for setting and driving both company and industry payments system strategy. Jane is also responsible for leading the Corporate Affairs business unit covering corporate communications, public and regulatory affairs, membership, industry engagement and business intelligence. This work includes leading the long-term payments system strategy initiative Payments Direction, strategic industry forums and industry networking events.

Before joining Payments NZ, Jane had an extensive career in the public service. Jane has formerly served as an Independent Director on the board of a large Primary Health organisation and has extensive experience working with Boards and governance committees. Jane has a Bachelor of Business Studies (BBS) from Massey University.


Sarah Hensen

Company Secretary

Sarah supports the Payment NZ Limited Board and takes care of all company compliance matters. Before joining Payments NZ, Sarah worked at Cards NZ Limited as Company Secretary and Legal Counsel. Since being admitted to the bar in 1989, Sarah has worked as a lawyer in both the public and private sectors. Sarah has a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the Victoria University of Wellington.



Caroline Kidd

Rules Drafter

Caroline drafts Payments NZ’s rules and standards. She has drafted payment standards since 1999 and has worked in the financial industry for 20 years. Before joining Payments NZ in 2010, Caroline worked for the New Zealand Bankers’ Association, the previous organisation responsible for the governance of payment clearing and settlement systems in New Zealand. Caroline has a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) (Hons) from the University of Auckland and a Master of Laws (LLM),  commercial law, from the University of London.



Jamie Wood

Manager, Clearing Systems

Jamie is responsible for the management of all our clearing systems - Bulk Electronic, Consumer Electronic, High Value and Paper. Jamie joined Payments NZ after spending 10 years with Kiwibank. He has experience across the payments spectrum from strategy through to operations and risk management, including the management of debit and prepaid card portfolios, as well as New Zealand’s largest ‘Over the Counter’ bill payment service. This broad senior management experience combined with a focus on delivering the best possible payment experience has made Jamie a real advocate for the industry. Jamie has a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration (BCA) from Victoria University.



Martin Quin

Senior Payments Advisor

Martin is responsible for managing two of New Zealand’s payment systems – the Paper Clearing System, dealing predominantly with cheques; and the Bulk Electronic Clearing System, dealing with direct debits, direct credits, bill payments and automatic payments. Martin has extensive experience in the financial industry, including previously working at the BNZ in international trade, foreign exchange and money market settlements. In more recent years, he has worked in domestic payments operational management roles and delivered transactional payments solutions for customers. Before joining Payments NZ Limited, Martin worked at the New Zealand Bankers’ Association where he helped establish Payments NZ Limited and was both Company Secretary and Operations Manager for Interchange and Settlements Ltd.



Jade Ford

Senior Payments Advisor

Jade is responsible for managing two of New Zealand’s payment systems – the Consumer Electronic Clearing System (CECS) and the High Value Clearing System (HVCS). Prior to joining Payments NZ, Jade worked in the UK in a variety of cards acquiring and point of sale distribution roles at one of the worlds leading payment companies – WorldPay. Here Jade spent her time developing the merchant services customer proposition, managing the card payment terminal estate and was responsible for delivering best in class corporate cross sales campaigns to maximise sales revenue. Whilst in the UK, Jade also held a variety of product and marketing management roles at HSBC. Jade has a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration (BCA) from Victoria University of Wellington.



Chad Haighmark

Senior Project Manager

Chad is responsible for the design and delivery of our company-wide strategic projects. He has a broad range of project management experience having worked on a number of complex process and organisation change initiatives in both a delivery and advisory capacity. Prior to joining payments NZ Chad worked as a senior advisor and project manager in a large government organisation. Chad has a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) from the University of Otago.



Frank Susko

Document Management Analyst

Frank joined Payments NZ in December 2012 to assist in drafting the payment clearing system standards as well as additional documentation to assist ogansiations in joining the payment system. Before joining Payments NZ Frank was a contract technical writer and business analyst in roles as diverse as banking, financial regulation, housing and the health sector. Frank has a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree from the University of Pittsburgh and emigrated to New Zealand from the United States in 2005.



Christine Brightwell

Brand and Communication Channels Manager

Christine joined Payments NZ in September 2014. She is our brand custodian and manages the delivery of our external communications. Christine has worked in marketing and communications for several years and held various positions in a diverse range of organisations both in the public and private sector. Before joining Payments NZ, Christine was an online content contractor working on large website projects both here and in Australia. Christine has a Bachelor of Business Management Studies (BMS) from the University of Waikato.


Natalie Vaughan-Sanders

Legal Counsel

Natalie advises on policy impacting Payments NZ’s Participants and payment systems and also provides support in the development and drafting of Payment NZ’s rules and standards. Since being admitted in 2006, Natalie has worked in the risk and compliance team at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer (UK), and in the financial services team at Kensington Swan. She has also had experience in the public sector. Natalie has a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) (Hons) and a Bachelor of Arts (BA), English, from Victoria University of Wellington.
