Consultation feedback on the EFTPOS Device Lifecycle Framework

29 Jun 2026

Payments NZ has published a summary of feedback on proposed updates to the EFTPOS device lifecycle framework, which governs how payment devices are introduced, maintained and retired in Aotearoa New Zealand.

The summary highlights broad support for the direction of the framework, alongside differing views on how lifecycle settings should be applied in practice.

Key themes include balancing security risk with device value, the role of global security standards, and the need for more transparent and flexible decision-making.

Feedback will inform the final framework, which is expected to be published later this year.
