Fintech Challenge winner - Dexibit

Dexibit have been awarded the top prize in our inaugural Fintech Innovation Challenge, sponsored by Paymark. Our five finalists had six minutes to pitch to delegates at The Point 2016, followed by a Q&A with an expert judging panel.

Following their presentations, it’s safe to say that an exciting future lies ahead for Kiwi fintech.

Dexibit were the first to present. Dexibit helps museums gather and analyse data about visitor trends by tracking mobile device signals. Museums get over a billion visitors a year – more than McDonalds and Starbucks combined – and Dexibit provides them with an attractive dashboard to inform business decisions.

Next up was Hey Jude which aims to be an automated private banker for the average consumer. Following frustration with overdraft charges, the founder wants to help others avoid similar mistakes by creating a self-learning ‘bot’ to offer financial advice and carry out payments and transfers on people’s behalf.

Third to the stage was Shareclarity, which makes information about shares quickly and easily available to self-directed investors. They described how their freemium model provides company analysis comparable to that of an investment bank or fund manager.

Genoapay were next to enter the “Dragon’s Den” with a product that allows merchants to quickly offer consumers finance through payments plans. These are available across mobile, ecommerce and physical points of sale, take just a few seconds longer than a traditional purchase, and provide retailers with lots of data about their customers.

Last but not least, MyBitcoinSaver presented the world’s first dedicated Bitcoin savings platform. This enables millennials to invest in the archetypical cryptocurrency in small increments, hopefully helping them pay off the substantial debt held by their generation.

The quality of all the presentations was outstanding, and keen questioning by a panel of experts helped tease out the strengths, and weaknesses, of all the fintech startups.

The finalists are all “taking it to the next level”. They’re taking a diverse range of problems faced by people in daily life, and turning the solutions to these into workable business models.

Once the votes had been counted, Dexibit were declared the winner of the Fintech Innovation Challenge at the conference Gala Dinner. Well done to them, and to the other finalists and runners-up, for continuing to shake up the fintech industry.
